Grandmothers and their families Part 1

Slaughter Family

Grandma Crowther was born Margaret Slaughter.  She was a middle child of ten, four of whom died young.  Her parents were William Henry Slaughter, born 1855 in Brighton and died 1925 in South Shields, and Bell Lowe, born 1859 in Kelloe, Durham and died in 1933 in South Shields.

Grandma was born in October 1892.  Although she was christened Margaret, she was often called Meg. The address for her parents was 25 East St, Hebburn. She was 21 years old when she married Joseph Crowther, just before the outbreak of WW1, in July 1914 in St Marks Church, Jarrow. She died in North Shields aged 72 years in March 1965.

Her siblings (who survived to adulthood) were:
John Lowe Slaughter was born in Oct 1883 in Hebburn Colliery and died in Newcastle in 1940.
Edith Slaughter was born April 1888 in Hebburn and died in 1974.

William Henry Slaughter was born in Aug 1895 and died in 1973.
Elizabeth Ann Slaughter (Great Aunt Liz) was born in Nov 1899 in Jarrow and died in 1970

Great Aunt Liz
Frederick Slaughter was born in 1905 and so far we haven't found his death.  He was living with the family in the 1911 census.

Burridge Family

Grandma Mac was born Elizabeth Ann Burridge and was the eldest of six children.  Her parents were Frank Burridge, born May 1873 in East Castle, Tanfield, Durham and died in November 1915 in Beamish, and Sarah Pinkney, born in Jun 1874 in Twizell Colliery, Durham and died in 1946.

Elizabeth Ann was born in Janurary 1893 in West Pelton, Durham and died in May 1972 aged 79 years. She was 19 years old when she married Edward McAndrew in June 1912 in Newcastle Registry Office.

Her siblings were:
Ethel Burridge was born in 1895 in Beamish
Mary Ann Pinkney Burridge was born in 1897 in Chester le Street
Josephine Burridge was born in August 1900 in Chester le Street and died in 1980

We think this photo is of two of Grandma's
sisters, but were not sure which two
William Pinkney Burridge was born in August 1902 in Chester Le Street and died in 1972.
Frank Burridge was born in January 1914 in Chester le Street and died in 1997. Therefore our great uncle Frank was younger than our uncle Frank (who was born in 1912)

McAndrew Family

Grandad was the only son and youngest of a family of 6 children.  Their parents were Edward McAndrew, born 1853 in Gateshead and died in 1930 in Wallsend, and Mary Paddon, born 1854 in Newcastle and died in 1938 in Wallsend.

This is an early picture of Grandad, he is standing at the back
on the left, but we're not sure of the occasion.

Grandad, Edward McAndrew, was born in 1893 in Longbenton and died in 1969 in Wallsend.

This picture shows Grandad posing
with a viola (he couldn't play!)

His siblings were:
Mary Ann McAndrew, born in 1879 in Felling
Bridget McAndrew, born in 1881 in Felling
Catherine McAndrew, born 1885 in Gosforth
Ellen McAndrew, born in 1888 in Longbenton
Sarah McAndrew, born in 1890 in Longbenton

Unfortunately we have't found out any further information about the sisters at this time other than they all had left home by the time of the 1911 census and all were still alive at that time. If anyone can help us out with further information we would be grateful.
